Brief words on Cambridge International Papers 2011

Hey dudes and gals,
I saw the International Chemistry Papers recently. I have just brief words about these Papers. You may want to look at the papers by googling them. I do not know how safe the websites that host the papers are, whether they have malware ads.

Please note that the International Papers have a different syllabus from Cambridge-Singapore exams.

CIE Chemistry Papers (International) 2011:

In MCQ, as expected, one question was a biochemistry question transformed into an organic chemistry question.

Disaccahrides came out in MCQ.

Isocyanate ions came out in the structured questions.

There was one question on pKa of different phenolic ions with different substituents. Seems like this kind of question is a favorite among examiners in 2010 - 2011.

A nanochemistry question came out.

A kinetics question on the reaction of :

ethanol + ethanal --> acetal

came out. This reaction is found in university organic chemistry textbook and is out of syllabus.

For planning and analysis, clock reaction (of chemical kinetics) and thermochemistry questions appeared.

(CN)2 appeared in Cambridge Pre-U exam papers 2011.

Cambridge Pre-U papers quoted a lot of materials from Nature 2009 and Nature 2010 journal articles. This implies that Cambridge may use journal articles from Nature / Science 2010 - 2011 in this year's exams.

For Organic Chemistry, the later topics are very important. Carbonyl chemistry chapter is 90% certain  to appear in structured questions.

Polymerisation reactions may appear in this year's papers.

Pre-U papers had some questions on organic drug molecules.

Do you recall any prominent drug names being mentioned in the newspapers in 2011-2012 besides anti-HIV drugs and propofol?

All the best.  Redeem the time 'cos time is so precious for a JC2 student.
